Earthenware and Glaze
Shaunagh grew up in the bay side suburbs of Melbourne where she developed an early affinity with the sea. Demonstrating artistic inclinations at a young age, she attended Star of the Sea, later transferring to St Michael’s school in pursuit of its attractive art program. Infant impressions and sea stories were to later conceive her artistic world, a fabled place inhabited by mythical childhood apparitions; Oceans, Sea monsters, Minotaurs and Sea Nymphs.
After completing school, Shaunagh studied painting at university, departing Australia in the early 1990’s to wander Europe and broaden her visual scope. Finding her way south, she lived for a year on the Cycladic islands in the Mediterranean, drawing on Greek narrative tradition to forge her distinct, folkloric figurative style. Her medium of choice, fired ceramic tablets, further embellish her simple, feminine, Grecian vision.
