“You know where you are with a wild beast.”
70 cm X 100 cm
Drawing heavily from the wild, Gracey Calnin’s art explores the depth of human instinct, the collective unconscious and the link between our primal cultures and the natural world. For as long as we have communicated, we have instilled human actions, reactions and emotions on the living world around us, sometimes to its detriment. Within these works and through these influences, the artist attempts to raise innate prejudicial awareness and positively re-wild our connection. Playing with ambiguity wrapped in realism, this work unites the ideas of human predation, the pack mentality and the nuances of social interactions.
